OCEAN WATER

 In a shallow area
 not far from shore
 I slip my fingers
 into ocean water.
 Sunlight sparkles my skin.
 small waves, maybe from China
 ripple their cooling
 Onto my hand.
 Bright reflections,
 floating diamonds,
 crystals formed in sand.
 A canvas of liquid blessing
 worships my fingers.

STREET LIGHTS

A door slams with a rattle into night.
Footsteps pass. The sound of a stranger.
 A face unknown.
The high tide of whiskey and smoke
 soaks the shorelines of sidewalks
As a city lowers its night curtains.
Tipped hats and high coat collars
 wade the flow through streams
 of streets.

Street lights. Fallen stars. Harbors of
cheap light on gum stained concrete skin.
 A voice. A whisper. A half shadow,
part gray part black, prefers the without,
hiding in the color where it lives.

 LONELY MOMENTS

Close onto my skin, the city
hands me a day of streets and sidewalks.

I am loaned garbage cans, gutters, pimps
and store fronts, each smelling the same.

The aroma of city is divided, sparring no one,
 reaching the sick and blind.

Sounds of cursing and shouting. Horns
 announce anger and sirens scream.

 Thundering hooves of pedestrians march
in masses of colors; separate without touching.

Neon arrows flash into pools of loneliness.
Still waters wait for weak hearts.
